Restoring a Piece of St Andrew's Heritage

Members of the St Andrew's Heritage Group have recently been hard at work carefully cleaning the historic pebble-lined roadside gulley along Le Rue des Morts.

These traditional granite and cobbled drainage channels are an important feature of Guernsey's rural landscape, reflecting centuries of local craftsmanship and helping to preserve the unique character of our parish. Over time, soil, vegetation and debris had accumulated, obscuring much of the original stonework.

Using hand tools and plenty of volunteer effort, the group has gently removed years of build-up to reveal the original pebble surface once again. Their work not only enhances the appearance of this historic lane but also helps protect an important part of St Andrew's heritage for future generations.
